Well, I decided it was about time I get on board the blogging bandwagon. Blogs are such a great tool for authors, and because I will soon be on a virtual book tour with Pump Up Your Book Promotion for my latest book, "Mo' Dirty", I figured now would be as good of time as any to get started.
I have been writing ever since the age of eight. My first published work of fiction was penned during the fall of 1976 as a student of Mary Field’s Elementary School on South Carolina’s Daufuskie Island. This effort was an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein’s “The Hobbit,” that I both wrote and illustrated. It was published in the school’s quarterly periodical, “The Daufuskie Kid’s Magazine.”
I then went on to write several unpublished stories and numerous poems, several of which were published in the 1995-1996 “Poetry Anthology” by the National Library of Poetry in Owings Mills, Maryland.
During the 90s, I was attracted to and inspired by the lurid tales of inner city crime and drama that I read on the pages of novels by great writers such as Donald Goines and Iceberg Slim. This, coupled with an enduring appreciation for the hard-edged, yet enlightened lyric of the era’s gangsta rap icons like Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Easy E and others prompted me to begin writing my very own stories of urban crime and inner city drama.
My first book, "Dirty South", was a book about multimillionaire drug lords who enjoyed power lunches with Southern aristocrats by day, and lay waste to their rivals by night. This book focuses around the Lake Clan, led by ruthless New Orleans kingpins Marion "Snookey" Lake and his nephew Rae-Kwon. After relocating to Georgia to escape the government and spread their dominance within the Southern crime infrastructure, they are met with immediate and violent resistance from South Carolina's feared Sea Island thugs. Get ready to experience the "Dirty South".
"Author King takes us through a very detailed journey in the life of a baller that has been trained in the trade to get people before they get you. This story allows you to go with the author in your mind and you can see and feel what is going on as each scene and chapter unfolds. King's journey allows you to be front and center during the drug deals, feel the emotions of the men and women whose lives were touched by the Lake family in one way or another, and the brushes with death they chance daily." - Sharon Gordon-Love, author
"DIRTY SOUTH is raw, gritty, and ruthless. It gives a surprising view of the life of drug kingpins outside of the typical setting of Northern urban cities. And it emphasizes how in the South, multimillionaire drug lords do power lunches with Southern aristocrats. While King presents a shockingly credible account of the geographical differences of drug life, at times some of the characters and situations seemed a little thin. Still, this is an eye-opening, even believable read on how to reach your potential in spite of a turbulent past. For a real account of some of the hardness and redemption of a slightly different drug scene, I invite you to visit the DIRTY SOUTH. " - The Rawsistaz Reviewers
